We get TNR requests from literally everywhere & the reality IS, no rescue can fix all the cats, we all have to chip-in & do our part. It might be a couple of cats behind your apartment building that aren’t ear tipped, the universal sign a cat is fixed already. If they’re not tipped, you’re gonna have kittens, LOTS of kittens & contrary to what some rescues tell you, they’re aren’t enough homes.
The idea of “No Kill” is fuzzy at best. Yes, fosters help a lot, but finding responsible FOREVER homes isn’t always a slam dunk. There’s just under 5 million people in LA & the low estimate is 3 million homeless cats. We’ve seen 1 female cat have 16 kittens in 12 months, now consider all the gals out there who aren’t spayed across the greater LA area, that’s thousands of babies being born & people DO dump adult kitties because they move, get a new partner with “allergies” or they just tried a kitten as a primer for having a human baby, then the cat gets to boot. Then there’s the family that cries about how much grandma loved her cats, but they gotta go ASAP.
Rescues hear it all & shelters aren’t disposal facilities, they should be a safety net for grandma’s cats, but again, reality IS, they get slammed with kittens cuz we’re not doing a good job of bringing spay/neuter to more cats.
We L❤️VE cats & that’s why our trappers are filling a giant void in the rescue community by trapping & fixing as many cats as we can. Almost anyone can TNR, everyone involved in rescue should know how to operate a humane trap & that’s why we’ll be @pasadenahumane Sunday promoting TNR.
